Petersen Aces Number Eight

It’s fitting, really, that Jim Petersen’s first-ever Wee-Ma-Tuk hole-in-one
should be on the eighth hole.

“I had eight holes-in-one up to now, but this is the first one at Wee-Ma-
Tuk,” Pete said, seconds after holing an eight iron on the 154-yard par
three.

You see, it’s Jim Petersen’s golf course. As the head of Golf Partners,
Inc., Pete is the owner of Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club, as well as the
recently-purchased Canton Public Golf Course, formerly the Canton
Country Club.

It was 11:30 AM on Wednesday, July 8, when the foursome composed of
Petersen, Mark Johann, Jeff Reed, and Rick Gaa began teeing off on
number 8. Reed’s shot made the green. Petersen’s did the same--and
rolled into the cup.

There was immediate celebration, most of it by Gaa, who had just
witnessed his first ace. Gaa claimed partial credit, as it was he who
shouted the obligatory, “Get in the hole!” Pete smiled, but stayed casual.
It was, after all, his ninth.

Pete aced hole number eight in the nick of time: the new design calls for
it to be de-commissioned. Nine will be the new eight, and so on, with new
holes being constructed farther along.

Pete hit the magic shot with an eight iron, though foursome member
Mark Johann offered ten dollars to have it reported as a six-iron.

Pete just smiled. Everybody did.

Blodgett Ties WMT Course Record

On July 5, Casey Blodgett carded a 63, tying the course record set in 1970 by former club pro Tim Sweborg. In the foursome were Josh Knowles, Austin Matheny,
and Julian Taylor.

The feat was all the more remarkable, considering that Casey bogeyed number seventeen after he pulled his drive into the trees. The round consisted of the one
bogey, seven pars, eight birdies, and an eagle.

Casey, who grew up in Wee-Ma-Tuk, has played golf since the age of ten. He is a graduate of Cuba High School, Spoon River College, and Western Illinois University.
Casey was Fulton County champion in 2008. He is employed by the Mason County Sheriff's Department.
Ladd Conquers Eighteen

You have to have mixed reactions to a
hole-in-one on number eighteen.

On the one hand is the incredible
excitement of the ace, probably
unmatched by any sports feat. On the
other is the desire to play on when the
next stop is the clubhouse.

Maybe there's a third hand: you get to
tell everyone about it right away.

On July 19, Rob Ladd hit his tee shot
over the gully and into the cup. Others
in the foursome were John Turgeon,
and Eric and Jim Abernathy.

Rob's name has been added to the
Hole-in-One Honor Roll (
Course Page.)
